The new designation will enable the State and Justice departments to freeze the group’s financial holdings, criminalizes funding or supporting the group, and bars any known members from entering the US, reports Pakistan's Daily Times.
US Defense Secretary Visits Afghan Taliban Birthplace

Gates met with about 100 soldiers at a U.S. military base near Kandahar City, saying their success in the area will make a difference to NATO's campaign to secure the region. He offered condolences to the troops for the recent loss of eight comrades in insurgent attacks and warned there will be more tough days ahead.
