Coalition for Peace Through Strength Petition to US Senate
We, the following 2074 retired Admirals and Generals and 112 national organizations hereby petition you to consider and act on the United States strategic military inferiority which has developed during the arms control process.
In this connection:
We will support you in funding the Strategic Defense Initiative. Our right of self-defense should not be compromised as it is in the ABM Treaty. For this reason, plus the fact that the Soviets have abrogated it through massive violations of its purpose, we should exercise our option to terminate the ABM Treaty.
We will support you in opposing the ratification of any arms agreement, such as the SALT II Treaty and the INF Treaty, which would lock the United States into strategic or conventional military inferiority to the Soviet Union, or would make our allies more vulnerable. In the meantime, the United States should at least stop its unilateral disarmament through obsolescence by replacing all of our over-age B-52 bombers, Minuteman ICBMs and Poseidon SLBMs.
We will support you in opposing the ratification of any new arms agreement until the Soviets quit violating all previous arms agreements and until we are permitted to verify all agreements by on-site inspections without advance notice.
We will support you in opposing the ratification of any new arms agreement until the Soviets also agree to stop their aggression, subversion and repression around the globe in places like Afghanistan, Angola, Nicaragua and Poland.
We will also support you in the adoption of a National Strategy for Peace Through Strength®.
