Currently the United States finds itself fighting two wars in its ongoing mission to defeat terrorism. This has taken its toll on the men and women of our Armed Forces. Supporting our military and making sure it is up to date with the most modern weapons and equipment to fight a war is a vital issue. Even as we fight two wars, other enemies of the United States and its allies are emerging: from North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il, to Venezuelan despot Hugo Chavez, the United States Military must always be prepared to answer any threats it faces.
Recently, the Obama administration has proposed reducing our missile defense systems. His administration has also cut the Air Force’s F-22 Raptor program. These steps embolden our enemies and leave us more vulnerable to aggressive action. As Kim Jong Il continues to defiantly test his long range missiles and Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad moves forward on his quest for nuclear capabilities, a well- prepared military is the best deterrent.
Dictators see our military cuts as a weakness and use it to speed up their own military capabilities. We must also be concerned with what actions some of our allies will take if our common enemies continue their military build up. If Iran gains nuclear capabilities what actions might Israel take? If we keep a strong, well-prepared military that is capable of answering any threat, enemies of freedom will think twice before making rash decisions that could end in war.
Evil people do exist. Unfortunately, some of these people are in charge of nations with large militaries. The United States must have a strong, well- prepared military to protect its citizens, interests, and allies from any evil that may be brought upon us. “Peace Through Strength” includes a powerful, well -funded and expertly trained military that is ready to defend freedom.
